Late breaking directions!
Coming from the O’Hare? To go straight to the conference take the blue line subway to Halsted/UIC stop. To go to the hotel, take the blue line to Washington and walk or taxi it – less than a mile (and our taxis are cheap). See the map on the accommodations page.
Also for drivers – the Morgan Street exits from, and bridge over, I290 is closed. As far as can tell that is the only problem caused by the roadworks.
Directions now available!
The meeting will take place in the Institute for the Humanities, in Stevenson Hall, University of Illinois at Chicago – roughly 701 S.Morgan St. See more directions above.
Papers now available
Some of the papers to be presented are now available through the website – see “Paper Discussion”. We have also set up a comment thread for each so that they can be discussed both before and after the meeting. The intension is that participants will have read the papers before the meeting to facilitate discussion.
Others will be posted as they become available!
Graduate student accommodation
Graduate students – if you would like a couch to sleep on and save hotel costs, please contact Josh Norton (<joshua.d.norton@gmail.com>) who has a list of local graduate students happy to put you up.
Accommodation
People attending the meeting can obtain a reduced rate (of $159/night ~ $180 with taxes) at the Crowne Plaza Chicago Metro: http://www.thechicagometro.com. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the conference, and about the same to downtown – but there are plenty of places to eat and drink in the vicinity.
To book, call 312-829-5000 and request the UIC rate – mention the conference if asked. The rate will be available until the hotel is 80% full – so please don’t wait!
If you would like us to try to help find you a roommate to split the cost, please contact us at beyondspacetimeseminar@gmail.com.
Registration and Graduate Travel Awards
The (preliminary) speaker program is now available. If you would like to come, please register (required!) – information is provided.
Please also note that travel awards for graduate students to attend are available. Please apply, or please make sure any suitable candidates are aware of the opportunity (especially members of any under-represented groups).
New date for Chicago meeting
Our Chicago meeting in September will not take place 26-28 September, as initially announced, but instead 27-29 September 2013. The program will be available shortly on this website.
Call for papers/proposals now closed
The call for contributed papers and abstracts of proposals has now been closed. We hope to notify all authors whether their submissions have been accepted by mid-July. For future reference, the CFP will remain visible as a separate page for a while.
Welcome to Beyond Spacetime
This is the new website of Beyond Spacetime (Nick Huggett and Christian Wüthrich), replacing beyondspacetime.blog.com, which has been shut down for inscrutable reasons. Welcome!
